138: SepTWINber: Billboard Dad

This week on the show, we riff another Olsen Twin's flick! In this movie, the girls play sisters whose dad is a widower sculptor, and they don't want him moping around the house anymore. So they hatch a hair brained scheme to advertise their father as single and ready to mingle by using a billboard. After being inundated with responses, their father ends up finding a romantic partner unexpectedly. However, in the way is their dad's greedy agent, who's using his client's art for underhanded means. There's also a rapping friend, a troubled bleached blonde boy, and a diving team coach.
Week three is a charming little film called Billboard Dad, this week on the Radkast!

137: SepTWINber: Switching Goals

This week on the show, we dive into the Olsen twins film catalog once again for another entry into SepTWINber! In this flick, the girls play Sam and Emma. Sam is a tomboy and is her competitive father's pride and joy, while Emma is a girly-girl, and lacks her father's attention. When a youth soccer league goes co-ed, the twin's dad doesn't sweat it too much because he'll have Sam to play for him. However, the girl's mother forces their dad to draft Emma in order to make her feel included. When a another coach picks Sam, both girl's find that neither of them are in their ideal situation. So the girls hatch a scheme to switch teams and deceive their mom. With their dad playing along, it isn't long before Mom finds out.
Switching places, switching teams, it's Switching Goals, this week on the Radkast!

136: SepTWINber: Passport to Paris

This week on the show, we kick off our first ever "SepTWINber" series riffing the films of the world's most famous twins! Mary-Kate and Ashley play Melanie and Allyson, two typical late 90's teens whose entire world is focused on the mall, gabbing with friends, and the perils of Junior High. When their parents feel the girl's world view is too narrow, they decide to ship them off to Paris, France to stay a week with their Grandfather. While in Paris, the girls befriend a famous model, help their uptight chaparone loosen up, and fall in love with a couple of French boys.
It's the Olsen Twins at the hight of their popularity in Passport to Paris, this week on the Radkast!

As a whole we're covering the years of 2000-2006, the sport's new apex, quite possibly it's biggest embarassment, and it's new beginnings! However, this edition we'll only be talking The Kid's new home, a historic season in Seattle, and Cub's fans going from blaming a billy goat, to blaming a scape goat!

131: SLY JULY: Tango & Cash

This week on the show, it's the last entry in Sly July and it caps the month off with a bang! Ray Tango and Gabe Cash are two hero cops who are the polar opposite of one another. When a common enemy of their's frames them for a murder which puts them behind bars, they put their differences aside and lean on one another for each other's survival. Once they make a pulse pounding escape, they make it their mission to clear their names...one quip at a time!
It's the last action blockbuster of the 80s, and it rounds out the decade of decadence with an over the top thrill ride, sure to satiate the appetite of any fan of the genre! It's Tango & Cash, this week on the Radkast!

130: SLY JULY: Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot

This week, it's another entry in Sly July! On this episode, we talk a movie that Sylvester regrets making, and we pretty much regret watching. Stallone plays Joe, a 40 something police officer whose Mom shows up unannouced and starts getting all up in his bitness. What is supposed to be played as charming is anything but. Joe's mom emotionally suffocates him, then plays the victim when Joe asks for space. Joe's mom finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation, which reveals an insurance scam. The main conflict takes a backseat to Joe's mom being an overbearing nuisance. However, we are not to feel bad for Joe, because at the end of the day he's a spineless mama's boy who only proves he can't make any positive momentum in life without her.
We'd say we felt sorry for Sly for getting roped into this mess, but he probably got paid more money then we'll see in our life time. So he can wipe his tears with his wad of hundreds, and we'll just suffer through Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, this week on the Radkast!

129: SLY JULY: Demolition Man

This week on the show, Sly plays cavalier police officer John Spartan, who ends up in a cryo prison due to an incident on the job. In the year 2032, the city of San Angeles is a utopia where all manner of violence has been all but erradicated. However, the peace of this brave new world is about to be disrupted when notorious criminal, and ultimate cause of Spartan's imprisonment, Simon Phoenix is freed to snuff out a potential threat to the city's order. Phoenix goes rouge and starts wreaking havoc the likes the city's police force has never experienced. The only way to combat this is by freeing John Spartan to face off against his old foe. Despite the percieved sanctity of San Angeles, Sly finds out that everything is not what it seems.
A man out of time, social commentary, and one-liners abound, it's Demolition Man this week on the Radkast!

128: SLY JULY: Stallone in the 90's

This week on the show, we kick off Sly July by rambling a bit about some of Sylvester Stallone's movies from the 90's! We talk movies like Cliffhanger, The Specialist, Copland, and Assasins...but with a twist. Instead of taking days out of our week to watch through all of Stallone's 90's catalogue, we decided to only watch the trailers for all those movies, and summarize what we think they're about based upon what's presented there!

A little closer to the end, Sly's underwhelmingly less famous brother Frank might just make an appearance into the fray. Whether we're totally wrong, or on the money, we had fun with this concept, and hope you do listening to it!

The film we talk about involves an asthmatic day-dreamer by the name of Barry, who when he's not dealing with his breathing problems inhibiting him, he has to deal with teasing from his classmates. Barry's only solace is when he can whisk himself away to fantasy worlds, and go on adventures where he is the right-hand man to his hero, Chuck Norris.
Thanks to the help of a supportive teacher, her wise uncle, his father, and his classmate crush, Barry overcomes the school bully, a pompous karate instructor, and learns when you find strength within yourself and see you're cared for, the real world is a far better place to live! Oh, and you may actually get to fight alongside your hero one day. No promises though.

This week, we make up for another oopsie during recording! Just like in December, Steven's computer died during a session for a new episode. However, also like in December, we fall back on the archives of one of our favorite creative ventures, Sucktastic Cinema! With it being the end of January, we decided to grab an offering from our Jean-Claude Van Damme series of episodes, and we chose one that wasn't at all as reaky as his other films!
JCVD is a former fire-fighter dealing with PTSD, and he must stop a charismatic mad man from blowing up the Stanley Cup Finals and killing the Vice President. Need we say more? We thought this was pretty DAMME good when we did it the first time, so we're excited to share it again this week for the Radkast!

Unlike other times where we've re-released some of our older episodes, this go-around was because we lost a recording! We had Jake and Jeff on to talk the new HBO Max movie A Christmas Story Christmas, we were almost at the end of the recording and my computer died! However we did not fret for long, because Matt suggested we publish our Sucktastic episode from December 2021 where we talked another Christmas Story sequel with the very same guests! We are still planning on recording an episode about the franchise's newest escapades with an adult Ralphie, but until then, enjoy us lament about teenage Ralphie's failed sex-capades for this Sucktastic Cinema re-release for the Radkast holiday season!
